    Summary

Sequence therapy with mestranol and chlormadinone acetate in women showed an estrogen-induced increase in alanine aminotransferase (GPT) levels. Other tested liver function parameters and indocyanine green half-life remained largely unchanged.

    Area of Science:

    • Endocrinology
    • Pharmacology
    • Clinical Chemistry

    Context:

    • Hormone replacement therapy
    • Oral contraceptives
    • Fertile age women

    Purpose:

    • Evaluate the impact of combined oral contraceptives on liver function tests.
    • Assess biochemical changes during sequential estrogen-gestagen therapy.

    Summary:

    • Mestranol/chlormadinone acetate treatment increased alanine aminotransferase (GPT) from 6.38 to 12.14 U/L, followed by a decrease to 5.34 U/L with chlormadinone acetate addition.
    • Mestranol/norethisterone acetate sequence therapy resulted in a minor increase in alpha1-globulin.
    • No significant alterations were observed in other tested parameters, including aminotransferases (GOT), alkaline phosphatase, alpha-amylase, cholesterol, total bilirubin, total protein, and indocyanine green half-life.
