  • Retrospective analysis of 36 patients undergoing operative intervention for vascular trauma over six years.
  • Categorization of trauma into iatrogenic and accidental.
  • Review of patient demographics, injury types, diagnostic methods, and treatment outcomes.

Main Results:

  • Iatrogenic trauma (24 patients, median age 61) was more common than accidental trauma (12 patients, median age 23).
  • Arterial injuries predominated in both iatrogenic (23) and accidental (9) cases.
  • Despite severe injuries, 89% of patients remained free of vascular sequelae at a median follow-up of 48 months.

Conclusions:

  • Vascular trauma is relatively uncommon in the UK.
  • A focused range of vascular surgery techniques suffices for treatment.
  • Prompt vascular surgical assessment is vital to avert significant limb loss.
