Purpose of the Study:

  • To correlate laser Doppler readings (LDR) with established periodontal diagnostic criteria.
  • To evaluate the efficacy of root planing using LDR and traditional measures.
  • To assess the long-term monitoring potential of the laser Doppler periodontal probe.

Main Methods:

  • Laser Doppler readings (LDR) and clinical measurements (bleeding on probing (BOP), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL)) were taken from 30 periodontitis patients.

  • Statistical analysis included subject-adjusted correlations and Mantel-Haenszel odds ratios.

    • The laser Doppler periodontal probe is a sensitive and reproducible method for intrasulcular gingival blood flow measurement.
    • LDR demonstrates strong correlation with established periodontal diagnostic criteria.
    • The laser Doppler probe serves as an unbiased, non-invasive tool for monitoring periodontal therapy response.
