Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of growth hormone (GH) and estrogen-gestagen (E-G) on bone health in ovariectomized rats.
  • To determine if GH can prevent bone loss and preserve mechanical competence.
  • To compare the efficacy of GH, E-G, and their combination.

Main Methods:

  • Ovariectomy was performed on 10-month-old lactating rats fed a low-calcium diet.
  • Rats received daily treatments for 6 months: low-dose GH, high-dose GH, E-G, or GH + E-G.
  • Mechanical competence, dry density, ash density, and ash concentration of the fourth lumbar vertebral body were measured.
