Area of Science:

  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Microsurgery
  • Trauma surgery

Background:

  • Scalp avulsion is a rare but severe traumatic injury.
  • Historically, replantation of avulsed scalp tissue often led to necrosis due to limited treatment options.

Observation:

  • A case study of a 19-year-old female patient with a severe scalp avulsion injury is presented.
  • The patient sustained a complete scalp avulsion.

Findings:

  • Successful microsurgical replantation of the avulsed scalp was achieved.
  • A halo-fixateur externe was employed to alleviate pressure on the replanted scalp, ensuring adequate blood flow and tissue viability.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the efficacy of microsurgical techniques in managing complex scalp avulsions.

Related Experiment Videos

  • The use of a halo-fixateur externe represents a novel approach to post-replantation care, potentially improving outcomes and reducing complications in similar cases.
