Summary

Background:

Bartonella henselae causes cat-scratch disease (CSD) and severe syndromes in immunocompromised individuals.
CSD typically manifests as self-limiting lymphadenopathy, with antibiotic efficacy debated.
Prevalence in Tyrol, Austria, was 0.7/100,000 children annually in 1994.

Observation:

Four pediatric cases in Tyrol included lymphadenitis coli, extremity lymphadenitis after cat contact, and osteolytic lesions.
One case presented with prolonged lymphadenitis despite antituberculosis therapy.
Symptoms varied, including febrile illness and hip pain, with some cases resolving spontaneously.

Findings:

Diagnosis relies on cat exposure history, exclusion of other diseases, histopathology, and serology.
