Summary

Antihistone antibodies (AHA) are found in systemic scleroderma (SSc) and morphea patients. In SSc, AHA may indicate cardiac and renal involvement, suggesting prognostic value.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the prevalence of AHA in patients diagnosed with SSc, overlap syndrome, and morphea.
  • To investigate the clinical significance and potential prognostic value of AHA in these conditions.

Main Methods:

  • Assessed AHA levels in 43 SSc patients, 4 overlap syndrome patients, and 11 morphea patients.
  • Correlated AHA presence with clinical manifestations and organ involvement.

  • AHA were detected in 41.8% of SSc patients and 36.3% of morphea patients.
  • Only one patient with overlap syndrome tested positive for AHA.
  • AHA in SSc patients frequently co-occurred with cardiac and renal involvement.
