Background:

  • Nitric oxide (NO) is a crucial signaling molecule, but its short in vivo half-life necessitates indirect measurement via stable oxidation products: nitrites and nitrates.
  • Serum nitrogen oxides (sNOx) are commonly used to estimate NO production, assuming consistent renal elimination.
  • The influence of renal function on serum NOx concentrations remains largely uncharacterized.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between renal function and serum nitrogen oxides (sNOx) concentrations in critically ill patients.
