HIV infection. What nurses need to know. The consumer perspective

In this article, the results are presented of interviews with people with HIV (consumers) about what their health care providers need to learn. Also emphasized in this article is the importance of incorporating the input of people with HIV at all levels of the health services system, the description of the AIDS Education and Training Centers Program as a resource for enhancing nurses' skills in the areas that consumers found lacking, and mechanisms that nurses, nurse managers, and nurse educators can use to assure the full participation of people with HIV as health care consumers.
