Background:

  • Prostate cancer is a prevalent malignancy in aging men.
  • While ras and p53 mutations occur, key genetic drivers of prostate cancer remain unclear.
  • Adenomatous Polyposis Coli (APC) gene mutations are linked to colorectal tumors, often alongside ras and p53 mutations.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the frequency and role of APC gene mutations in human prostate cancer.
  • To determine if APC gene alterations contribute significantly to prostate cancer development.

  • Analysis of 31 primary prostate tumors across stages A-D and 4 lymph node metastases.
  • Utilized Polymerase Chain Reaction-Single Strand Conformation Polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) analysis and sequencing.
