    Summary

Symmetrical peripheral gangrene can occur with heart problems. These cases highlight rare instances where intracardiac lesions led to gangrene due to significantly reduced cardiac output.

    Area of Science:

    • Cardiology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Symmetrical peripheral gangrene is a rare condition.
    • Intracardiac lesions can manifest in various ways.

    Observation:

    • Two patients presented with symmetrical peripheral gangrene.
    • One patient had a uterine leiomyosarcoma deposit in the right ventricle.
    • The other patient had a free ball thrombus in the right atrium.

    Findings:

    • Neither patient had valvular lesions.
    • Gangrene in these cases was linked to intracardiac lesions.
    • The underlying cause was a very low cardiac output.

    Implications:

    • This study expands understanding of gangrene etiology.
    • Highlights unusual cardiac causes of peripheral gangrene.
    • Suggests considering intracardiac pathology in unexplained gangrene.
