    Summary

    This study achieved excellent blood-free fields for middle ear surgery by lowering systolic blood pressure to under 50 mm Hg. The technique demonstrated a high success rate with no associated mortality or morbidity.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of induced hypotension for creating a blood-free field during microscopic middle ear surgery.
    • To assess the success rate of achieving optimal surgical conditions using this specific anesthetic and hypotensive technique.

    • A total of 700 patients underwent middle ear surgery using an operating microscope.
    • Anesthesia was induced using thiopentone, halothane, and nitrous oxide in oxygen.
    • Pharmacological hypotension was achieved using pentolinium tartrate to reduce arterial systolic pressure below 50 mm Hg.
