Summary

Tirilazad, a 21-aminosteroid, shows promise as an oxygen free radical scavenger for central nervous system disorders. While effective in preclinical models of spinal cord and head injuries, clinical efficacy is limited by drug concentration issues, except for subarachnoid hemorrhage.
