Insights

Pheochromocytoma can cause left ventricular hypertrophy mimicking hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Tumor removal relieved symptoms and normalized blood pressure and ECGs, but echocardiographic changes only partially regressed.

Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Endocrinology
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Pheochromocytoma is a rare neuroendocrine tumor.
  • Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) can be a complication of pheochromocytoma.
  • LVH may mimic hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM).
