Summary

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) did not improve motor-nerve regeneration in rats after injury. Functional assessments showed no significant difference between BDNF-treated and control groups following entubulation repair.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of BDNF in promoting motor-nerve regeneration after transection injury.
  • To assess functional recovery following entubulation repair with BDNF treatment.

Main Methods:

  • Adult rats underwent sciatic nerve transection and entubulation repair.
  • BDNF or phosphate-buffered saline (control) was administered within a silicone elastomer channel.
  • Functional recovery was assessed using gait analysis and tension transduction device (TTD) strain-gauge measurements.
