A rare splenic hamartoma was incidentally found in a hypertensive patient. This pulpal type hamartoma contained haemosiderin, calcification, and eosinophils, with an excellent patient recovery.

Area of Science:

  • Pathology
  • Radiology
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Splenic hamartomas are rare benign tumors.
  • Hypertension can be a presenting symptom or unrelated finding.

Observation:

  • A 55-year-old male with hypertension was incidentally found to have a splenic mass.
  • Imaging suggested a splenic hamartoma.

Findings:

  • Histological examination confirmed a pulpal type splenic hamartoma.
  • The tumor showed foci of haemosiderin, calcification, and numerous eosinophil leukocytes.

Implications:

  • Splenic hamartomas, though rare, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of splenic masses.
  • This case highlights the importance of incidental findings during diagnostic workups.
