Carbon dioxide insufflation during laparoscopic surgery significantly increases plasma catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine). This hormonal response, particularly pronounced in certain surgical positions, necessitates careful hemodynamic monitoring at the procedure

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate plasma catecholamine levels during pneumoperitoneum in laparoscopic surgery.
  • To compare catecholamine responses between different surgical positions.

Main Methods:

  • Plasma epinephrine and norepinephrine levels were measured in 29 patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery.
  • Patients were divided into two groups based on surgical position: half lateral decubitus (group 1) and Trendelenburg (group 2).

  • Significant increases in epinephrine and norepinephrine were observed 5 minutes post-insufflation.
