Background:

Antenatal care provides a critical opportunity for health education.
Limited studies evaluate the impact of structured educational programs during pregnancy.
Improving maternal and child health knowledge is essential for better healthcare practices.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the impact of an educational program during the antenatal period.
To assess changes in knowledge regarding maternal and child care among pregnant women.
To determine the effectiveness of health education on antenatal care, vaccination, and breastfeeding awareness.

Main Methods:

A study was conducted with pregnant women attending an antenatal clinic.
A control group (100 mothers) received no health education.
A study group (201 mothers) received targeted health education on maternal and child care.
Groups were matched for age, parity, education, income, and antenatal visit frequency.

Main Results:

The study group showed statistically significant knowledge gains in the purpose of antenatal care, hematinics, and tetanus toxoid vaccination.
Awareness of breastfeeding and its advantages increased significantly in the study group.
Knowledge about individual vaccines (measles, DPT) improved significantly post-intervention.

Conclusions:

The antenatal period is an optimal time to impart essential health education.
Structured health education programs can significantly enhance maternal and child health knowledge.
