Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Geriatric Medicine
  • Gynecology

Background:

  • Urethral prolapse is an uncommon condition, particularly in postmenopausal women.
  • Diagnosis can be challenging due to its rarity and potential for misinterpretation.

Observation:

  • A case study of an 86-year-old female patient presenting with urethral prolapse.
  • Clinical findings were documented to understand the presentation of this rare condition.

Findings:

  • The study details the successful surgical excision of urethral prolapse.
  • A specific technique involving an indwelling Foley catheter and mucosal edge suturing to vaginal skin was employed.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a viable treatment option for urethral prolapse in elderly patients.
  • Further discussion on etiology, differential diagnosis, and treatment modalities is warranted for this rare condition.
