Abstract:
A review of free oxygen radicals and their role in the perinatal period is presented. Basic problems related to their formation, defence systems, pregnancy, delivery and the postnatal period are addressed. Special attention is given to acute and chronic diseases typical for prematurity. Current therapy and future prospects are discussed.
