Observation:

  • Four patients developed chronic radiodermatitis after multiple cardiac catheterizations and angioplasties.
  • Retrospective analysis calculated mean cumulative radiation doses of 24.6 Gy (range: 11.4–34.9 Gy).

Findings:

  • Chronic radiodermatitis is a significant risk for patients undergoing repeated cardiac catheterizations.
  • Radiation doses as low as 11.4 Gy, achievable in 1-2 procedures, may be harmful in susceptible individuals.
