Summary

Serous surface papillary carcinoma of the abdominopelvic peritoneum, a rare cancer, showed promising results with aggressive surgery and cisplatin chemotherapy. Even with a poor prognosis, these treatments led to negative second-look procedures in two patients.

Background:

Serous surface papillary carcinoma (SSPC) is a rare malignancy arising from the abdominopelvic peritoneum.
This subtype of peritoneal cancer is often associated with a poor prognosis due to its aggressive nature and late diagnosis.

Observation:

Presents three cases of abdominopelvic peritoneal serous surface papillary carcinoma.
All patients received a consistent management protocol involving primary cytoreductive surgery followed by platinum-based chemotherapy.

Findings:

Two out of three patients demonstrated negative second-look surgical assessments, indicating successful disease clearance.
The combination of aggressive surgical intervention and cisplatin-based chemotherapy yielded encouraging outcomes despite the generally poor prognosis of SSPC.

Implications:

Aggressive surgical management combined with cisplatin-based chemotherapy may represent a viable and effective treatment strategy for serous surface papillary carcinoma.
These findings suggest potential for improved patient outcomes in managing this rare and challenging peritoneal malignancy.
