The Knops blood-group system: a review.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if soluble CR1 (sCR1) can neutralize Knops system antibodies.
  • To develop a method for identifying Knops system antibodies.

Main Methods:

  • Radiolabeled immunoprecipitation was used to test sCR1.
  • 45 different antibodies were tested for neutralization with sCR1.
  • Standard serological techniques were employed post-neutralization.

Main Results:

  • sCR1 expressed Kn(a), McC(a), Sl(a), and Yk(a) antigens.
  • All 22 Knops system antibodies tested were neutralized by sCR1.
