Objective:
The linguistic and cultural adaptation of the OARS multidimensional functional assessment questionnaire (OARS-MFAQ) from its original English version.
Design:
The methodology was translation and back-translation with the inconsistencies resolved between the research team and the authors at Duke University. The validity of the adaptation was checked.
Setting:
Provincial capitals and country towns in the provinces of Granada, Málaga, Córdoba and Sevilla.
Participants:
Sample of 473 people over 60 living in the community.
Measurements And Main Results:
After the cultural and linguistic adaptation was used by a previously trained researcher to fill in the questions on a home visit. The factor grouping coincided precisely in the social network, economic resources and physical health dimensions. In the capacity for self-care dimension two factors coincided, but one item in our factor analysis was different from in the North American version. In the mental health scale there was complete agreement, except that one North American factor divided into two in our findings.
Conclusions:
The cultural adaptation of the OARS-MFAQ to spanish was carried out. The spanish version was verified as equivalent to the original version.
