Tuberculous tenosynovitis can occur even when Mycobacterium is not detected in biopsies. Genetic testing of DNA from joint abscesses can diagnose this condition when traditional methods fail.

  • DNA analysis of the abscess aspirate confirmed the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA.
  • This genetic finding enabled a diagnosis of tuberculous tenosynovitis.
