Managing pregnancy sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum
Abstract:
The causes of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy are still not clearly understood, nor is there one simple, effective treatment. Nausea and vomiting do not appear to be associated with fetal morbidity, malnutrition or death. Carbohydrate-rich snacks at frequent intervals seem to provide relief. Health education on healthy sandwiches and snacks should be given. Hyperemesis gravidarum-severe vomiting in pregnancy-requires management in hospital to restore electrolyte balance and prevent severe dehydration.
