Area of Science:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Neuropathology
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Spinal neurofibromas constitute a significant portion of spinal tumors, typically located intradurally and extramedullarly.
  • Intramedullary spinal neurofibromas are exceptionally rare, presenting unique diagnostic and surgical challenges.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with symptoms of gradual spinal cord compression.
  • Preoperative imaging studies indicated an intramedullary lesion.

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention was performed for an intramedullary neurofibroma.
  • The case contributes to the understanding of rare spinal tumor presentations.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of considering intramedullary neurofibromas in the differential diagnosis of spinal cord compression.
