This article describes the pathology of Parkinson's disease, and how it can be managed through drug therapy and surgical intervention, particularly pallidotomy. A detailed account of the peri-operative nursing care of patients undergoing pallidotomy is given to highlight the demanding nature of the procedure for patients and staff.
