Working within systems that don't ... or at least not the way I thought they would!

Each culture has its own systems, values, structures, and rules which differ from those of other cultures. To function effectively in any culture, one has to gain an appreciation of its values and rules, an understanding of how it is organized, and knowledge of the people who are in charge of its systems. This is true, also, of clinical work with people of different cultures. This article is a personal journal which describes one speech-pathologist's encounters with ethnic and governmental cultures, what she learned, and how she grew.
