Acute brucellosis associated with massive proteinuria

Summary

Heavy proteinuria, a rare symptom in brucellosis kidney complications, was observed as the only renal issue in a patient with acute brucellosis. This finding is novel as it occurred without the typical accompanying renal failure.

Background:

Brucellosis is a zoonotic infection with potential renal complications.
Mild proteinuria is a common finding in renal brucellosis.
Heavy proteinuria in renal brucellosis is rare and typically linked to renal failure.

Observation:

This case describes a patient with acute brucellosis presenting with heavy proteinuria.
No other renal derangements were noted.
Renal failure was notably absent in this presentation.
