Background:

  • End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is a complex condition affecting multiple organ systems.
  • Previous studies suggested potential neuropsychological deficits in ESRD patients undergoing dialysis.
  • The impact of dialysis adequacy and comorbid depression on cognition in ESRD requires further investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess neuropsychological function in well-dialyzed ESRD patients.
  • To investigate the influence of depression on cognitive performance in ESRD.
  • To compare cognitive function between ESRD patients and matched controls.

Main Methods:

  • A comprehensive neuropsychological test battery was administered to 16 well-dialyzed ESRD patients and 12 controls.
