Area of Science:

  • Computational science
  • Philosophy of science
  • Biologically motivated computing

Background:

  • The traditional state-oriented physics paradigm is being challenged by measurement processes.
  • Ludwig Wittgenstein's philosophy highlights a shift from rule-following to language games.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To propose a new model for measurement-oriented computing inspired by biological systems.
  • To reframe approximation and computing processes as language games.

Main Methods:

  • Conceptual analysis of epistemological shifts in physics.
  • Drawing parallels between computing processes and Wittgenstein's language games.
  • Metaphorical formalization of proto-computing using tree- and loop-program disequilibration.

  • Computing processes, including approximations, can be understood as language games.
  • A model of proto-computing is proposed, based on program structure dynamics.

Conclusions:

  • The proposed proto-computing model offers a framework for understanding measurement-oriented computing.
  • This approach bridges concepts from computation, biology, and philosophy.
  • The language game metaphor provides novel insights into the nature of scientific measurement and computation.
