    Human lymph nodes exhibit low natural killer (NK) cell activity, even near tumors. This minimal immune response is consistent in healthy individuals and breast cancer patients, suggesting a baseline low NK cell function.

    Background:

    • Human normal lymph nodes demonstrate low natural killer (NK) cell activity, typically requiring high lymphocyte-to-target cell ratios for detection.
    • This low NK cell activity is observed irrespective of anatomical origin and persists in regional lymph nodes draining various solid tumors, including breast carcinoma.

    • The observed low NK cell activity is a baseline characteristic and is not attributable to effector cell inhibition by immune complexes.
    • Further research may be needed to understand the implications of this low NK cell activity in the context of immune surveillance against cancer.
