Maintaining spontaneous respiration in the postoperative phase of cardiac surgery
International Surgery
|April 1, 1977
Abstract:
With the described technic we were able to eliminate the use of a ventilator with its attendant problems. No ventilator can adjust to the body's demand for ample ventilation as correctly as the body itselt. All anesthetic agents used are without depressant effect on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. The most important result of this technic is that at the end of surgery the patient is quite awake and breathing normally. There is therefore no need for a ventilator in the postoperative phase. An illustrative case is presented.
