Abstract:
The interest of nephrologists in renal infections has waxed and waned over past decades, despite the fact that acute pyelonephritis is the most common of all renal diseases. A host of new antibiotics highly effective against urinary pathogens probably contributed to the notion that renal infection had disappeared from te field of renal medicine. In fact, a flurry of recent publications sheds new light on the pathophysiology and the immunology of this inflammation of renal tissue, its diagnosis by means of ingenious imaging techniques and the risk it carries of renal scarring.
