Hemi-laryngeal Setup for Studying Vocal Fold Vibration in Three Dimensions

[A preliminary evaluation of the horizontal-vertical hemilaryngectomy in 41 cases]
Abstract:
41 patients (23 men and 18 women) with squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx were treated with horizontal-vertical hemilaryngectomy from December 1979 to June 1989. The patient's age ranged from 35 to 64 years. There were 37 cases (90.2%) in the stage III and IV. All the patients had acquired the function of speech in different quality, and good swallowing. 80.5% (33 cases) of them were extubated. The 5-year survival rate was 70.7%. In this article, the main procedure of the operation and preventive method of the aspiration were described, and the failing factors of the treatment were discussed.
