  • Postoperative recovery was complicated by septicaemia, leading to mortality on day 21 postburn.
  • The caecal perforation was a contributing factor to the patient's death.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the potential for severe gastrointestinal complications, such as caecal perforation, following extensive burns.
  • Early recognition and management of colonic ulceration and perforation are crucial in critically ill burn patients.
  • Further research into the pathophysiology and prevention of these rare burn-related GI complications is warranted.
