Within the last decade, changes have been witnessed in nursing practice, including Queensland, Australia. These changes occurred when nursing underwent restructuring in most states of Australia. The result was that the focus moved to recognize clinical expertise rather than years of service. This change in focus provided a career path for professional nursing practice. The author presents her own experiences and discusses all of the important aspects of advanced practice nursing in this country.
