Functional lutein cyst in a postmenopausal woman

• Histologic examination confirmed a cyst lined by lutein cells, indicative of a functional lutein cyst.
• The patient's endometrium exhibited cystic and adenomatous hyperplasia, a response to prolonged estrogen exposure.
• The diagnosis of a functional lutein cyst was established.

Implications:

• Functional lutein cysts can cause significant hormonal disturbances in postmenopausal women.
• Surgical intervention (ovarian cystectomy) is an effective treatment for such conditions.
