Summary

Choroidal pulsation during indocyanine-green angiography is a common, likely physiological event observed in over half of patients. Localized, prolonged pulsation in choroidal veins may indicate abnormal low flow, warranting further investigation.

Background:

  • Choroidal pulsation during indocyanine-green (ICG) videoangiography using a scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) was observed.
  • The frequency and forms of this pulsatile choroidal inflow phenomenon required further investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the frequency and characteristics of choroidal pulsation during ICG angiography.
  • To differentiate between physiological and potentially pathological forms of choroidal pulsation.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 187 ICG angiographies performed with a Rodenstock SLO.
  • Classification of choroidal pulsation into four groups based on pattern and duration.
  • Examination of pulsation in the central retinal vein for correlation.
