Abstract:
Malformations of cortical development are a significant cause of epilepsy in adults and of developmental delay and epilepsy in children. Magnetic resonance imaging allows many of these malformations to be detected noninvasively. In the past year, the major work in this area has been aimed at improved detection of small areas of dysplasia, further identification of clinicomorphological syndromes associated with these disorders, and early attempts to classify these malformations based upon clinical and magnetic resonance criteria.
