Postoperative return to normal activity is influenced by factors beyond health status, making it an unreliable measure for surgical benefits. This outcome measure should be interpreted cautiously when evaluating surgical interventions.

  • The Short Form 36 (SF-36) health status measure was used.
  • Correlation and regression analyses assessed the relationship between SF-36 scores and recovery time.
