Abstract:
Although most hospitals provide retirement benefits to nurses, a number of factors conspire to prevent many nurses from enjoying the benefits. It is quite possible for nurses to work continually in their profession and yet be ineligible for a pension on retirement. The unique circumstances of nurses career working patterns are outlined as are characteristics of hospitals' pension plans. Action is recommended at three levels: individual, employee and professional.
