Summary

Serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) zinc levels are significantly lower in children experiencing febrile seizures. This zinc deficiency may contribute to the development of febrile convulsions.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the role of serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) trace elements (zinc, copper, magnesium) and protein in the pathogenesis of febrile convulsions.
  • To compare trace element levels in children with febrile convulsions, bacterial meningitis, viral CNS infections, and a control group.

Main Methods:

  • Serum and CSF samples were collected from patients within 6 hours of hospital admission.
  • Trace element (Zn, Cu, Mg) and protein levels were measured using spectrometry.
  • Statistical analysis was performed to compare levels between the different patient groups.
