Subcutaneous cavernous hemangioma visualized on an indium-111-octreotide scan
1Department of Radiology, Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois, USA.
Summary
Indium-111-octreotide scans can visualize somatostatin receptor-bearing tumors. This study shows the agent also successfully imaged a rare subcutaneous cavernous hemangioma in an infant.
Area of Science:
- Nuclear medicine
- Radiopharmaceutical imaging
- Oncology
Background:
- Indium-111-octreotide is a somatostatin analog and the first commercial receptor-based imaging agent.
- It targets somatostatin receptors, making it suitable for imaging tumors expressing these receptors.
