Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

Background:

  • Vesical lithiasis (bladder stones) is common.
  • Technological advancements have shifted treatment from open surgery to endoscopic techniques and extracorporeal lithotripsy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present an endoscopic protocol for vesical lithiasis resolution via hypogastric puncture.
  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of this technique.

Main Methods:

  • Endoscopic resolution using a hypogastric puncture approach with a nephroscope.
  • Procedure performed under local anesthesia, often ambulatory, with short-term catheterization.
  • Ultrasound use was optional.

Main Results:

  • Applied to 39 patients with a 97.4% success rate.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Minimal morbidity associated with the procedure.
  • Faster and more efficient than extracorporeal lithotripsy, especially for hard or numerous stones.
  • Conclusions:

    • The hypogastric puncture endoscopic technique is a simple, efficient, and safe method for treating male bladder stones.
    • Offers advantages over urethral approaches and extracorporeal lithotripsy.
    • Can be combined with transurethral prostate resection if needed.
