Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between NMP and pain perception during repetitive CO2 stimulation.
  • To explore the effect of interstimulus intervals (ISI) on these responses.

Main Methods:

  • 21 subjects received trains of four CO2 stimuli (70% v/v) at 2s or 6s ISI.
  • Pain ratings and NMP amplitudes from respiratory epithelium were recorded.
  • Statistical analysis (P < 0.01) was used to compare responses.
