Summary

Patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) exhibit altered high-density lipoproteins (HDL), including reduced HDL cholesterol and changes in particle composition. These lipid profile abnormalities may contribute to accelerated atherosclerosis in NIDDM patients.
