Abstract:
The Netherlands has infant mortality rates that are consistently lower than those of the United States. The United States ranked 22nd in infant mortality in 1989, whereas the Netherlands ranked 5th. Several components of the Dutch health care system could be adapted in the United States to lower the infant mortality rate. The maternity care helper program is one such service.
