Abstract:
This article identifies the important prognostic factors that determine outcome and medical management of papillary and follicular thyroid cancer. It summarizes current trends in the use of radioactive iodine (131I) and gives explicit advice on its use in the treatment of these cancers. Preparation, dosimetry, and complication of therapy are discussed in detail. Follow-up with measurement of serum thyroglobulin concentrations and subsequent treatment with thyroid hormone is reviewed.
